Tyson, H-E-B and NextUp Donate 40,000 Pounds of Food to NTFB for Hunger Action Month
The companies gave protein to support the increasing number of neighbors facing hunger in North Texas.
Tyson Foods, H-E-B and NextUp closed out Hunger Action Month by donating a generous 40,000 pounds of protein to the North Texas Food Bank on Sept. 26.
“We are so grateful for the support of companies like Tyson Foods, H-E-B and NextUp Texas that recognize the growing issue of hunger and look for was to contribute to organizations addressing this complex problem,” said Stacy Stephenson, NTFB’s Director of Food Sourcing. “Their generosity helps advance our mission of bridging the hunger gap in North Texas during this critical time and beyond.”
The food will be distributed to neighbors facing hunger across the 13 counties served by the NTFB. Texas now leads the nation in hunger, with nearly 5 million people experiencing food insecurity, and the NTFB’s service area has the fourth-highest number of food-insecure people in the nation, with nearly 778,000 people facing hunger. To meet those needs, the NTFB distributes an average of 2.5 million pounds of food per week across a 10,000-square-mile service area.
Tim Grailer, Senior Director of Corporate Strategy at Tyson Foods, said they are proud to help fight hunger in partnership with H-E-B and NextUp, which share their mission and passion for helping other.
“Tyson Foods is committed to addressing food insecurity in North Texas and honored to support the network of Feeding America food banks in communities across the U.S.,” he said.
Danny Flores, H-E-B Hunger Relief Public Affairs Manager, added that they are also proud to be a part of this partnership as it will provide families with much-needed protein.
“The H-E-B hunger relief program has donated more than 1 billion pounds of food to nonprofits in Texas and Mexico and this donation continues to show the importance of coming together to address hunger in our communities,” he said.
