Why did you choose the North Texas Food Bank?
My decision to join the North Texas Food Bank stems from a lifelong involvement in community service and a commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others. Growing up, I volunteered at various organizations, including The Homework House, where I assisted children in need of academic support due to their parents’ work schedules and financial constraints. Additionally, I devoted time to helping children with special needs and participated in numerous mission trips to an orphanage in Mexico, where I engaged in service projects and provided care and support to the children.
Last year, my husband and I had the opportunity to volunteer at the North Texas Food Bank, and we were deeply inspired by its mission to alleviate hunger and empower lives in our community. When I discovered the Vice President of People and Culture opportunity, I knew it was the perfect fit for me. Joining the North Texas Food Bank allows me to further my journey of service, leverage my personal and professional skills to contribute to a cause I deeply believe in. I look forward to contributing to the incredible work already being done to create positive change in our community.
What do you want NTFB and its supporters to know about you?
I was born in Florida and spent many years living in Illinois and Southern California. While my childhood roots are in the Midwest, I’ve always considered myself a California girl at heart. My parents still reside in Southern California, and we make it a point to visit them a couple of times a year to spend quality time together.
In addition to my professional life, I’m a dedicated mom to two incredible kids, Erik and Abby. Erik is currently in his sophomore year, loves playing basketball and recently started driving, which has definitely kept me on my toes! Abby is embarking on her freshman year this fall; she loves choir and spending time with friends at the mall.
When my husband and I aren’t busy supporting our kids at school and sporting events, we enjoy unwinding together. Whether it’s dining out for a relaxing dinner or cozying up at home to binge-watch our favorite shows on Netflix.
We also have a love for travel and exploring new cultures. Next summer, we’re looking forward to visiting my brother and his family in Shanghai, China.
What are your interests and hobbies outside of work?
When I am not spending time with family or hanging out with close friends, I enjoy taking my dog, Kai, for walks around our neighborhood. It’s a wonderful way for me to unwind after a long day. Watching Kai eagerly chase after squirrels and bunnies always brings a smile to my face and serves as a reminder to appreciate the little joys in life.
While I haven’t always been a fan of cooking, I recently decided to give it a try, and discovered a newfound appreciation for it. I am particularly drawn to recipes like one-sheet pans for their simplicity. I mean, who really enjoys dealing with a ton of cleanup after a delicious meal?
