Winter Storm Resources and Information for North Texas

Dangerously cold temperatures are expected across North Texas this weekend, with sleet, ice, and snow likely to impact travel and daily routines. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning from Friday evening through Sunday, along with an Extreme Cold Warning that lasts into early next week.

As our community prepares, the North Texas Food Bank is sharing resources and simple steps to help you and your family stay safe and food-secure during the storm.

Food and Grocery Tips

  • Shop early if you are able and avoid traveling once conditions worsen
  • Focus on shelf-stable foods that do not require refrigeration or cooking
  • Keep extra water on hand
  • If you rely on refrigerated or frozen food, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible during power outages

If you are unable to access groceries or need food assistance, the North Texas Food Bank continues to work with partner agencies across the region. Some distributions may adjust schedules due to weather. Please check directly with your local pantry before traveling. Find a food pantry here https://ntfb.org/food-assistance/find-a-food-pantry/.

Shelter and Warming Centers

Warming shelters and emergency overnight shelters are opening across North Texas for neighbors who need a safe place to escape the cold.

The city of Dallas’ primary temporary overnight shelter will open at 4 p.m. on Friday at Fair Park’s Grand Place building, 3701 Grand Ave. The Austin Street Center and OurCalling, homelessness service providers in Dallas, will operate the inclement weather shelter in partnership with the city.

Other shelters will also open around Dallas and in Tarrant and Collin counties. For a complete list of shelters across North Texas, click here.
