Celebrate National Smoothie Day with this Delicious Recipe

This easy banana strawberry smoothie is packed with vitamins and protein.

Fruit-filled smoothies can be a refreshing treat or breakfast, but Nutrition Education Specialist Jamie Palefsky says to make sure you’re including some protein if you want to make it a meal. “Greek yogurt is crucial because it adds protein, usually around 13 grams in a single serving cup,” she says.

Here, Jamie shares some tips for a simple strawberry banana smoothie. If strawberry banana isn’t your favorite flavor, she says any fruit will do. Just be sure to select fruits of differing colors so that you’re getting a good mix of vitamins. It’s also important to blend them with low-fat dairy, whether 1% milk or low-fat almond or oat milk. Want to make it even more nutritious? Add a cup of spinach for a boost of vitamin k and iron.

Strawberry and Banana Fruit Smoothie

Thành phần

3 cups strawberries, fresh or unsweetened frozen (frozen fruit works well)

1 banana, large

2 cups 1% milk (or low-fat dairy-free alternative like almond or oat milk)

1 cup plain Greek yogurt

Optional

1 cup ice (this is good to include when using non-frozen fruit)

Rau chân vịt

Preparation

If berries are frozen, defrost just enough so they will blend easily. If fresh, rinse thoroughly with water.

In a tall blender, add strawberries, banana, milk, yogurt and ice and spinach if including.

Blend until smooth, usually around 45 seconds.
