The 12 Days of Giving

The holiday season is in full swing, and the North Texas Food Bank is stocked with gifts and tributes for everyone on your list. Consider these ideas for gifts and activities that will also support North Texans facing hunger.

1. Send an NTFB Holiday Card

Select from one of three seasonal designs and receive a box of 10 bifold cards and blank envelopes for $25. Each purchase provides 75 meals for our neighbors facing hunger. Select a box of cards here.

2. Purchase tickets to the Dallas Theater Center’s A Christmas Carol

On stage through Dec. 30, DTC’s annual holiday production features the chance to donate food or funds while you’re in the audience. Look for a box to drop off non-perishable food items in the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre or see a cast member after the performance to make a monetary donation. Since 2007, DTC has donated nearly $895,000 to the Food Bank. Reserve your ticket here.

3. Read Hunger Bugs Me! With the Kids

Order a copy of the Food Bank’s children’s book (or pick one up at NTFB’s Perot Family Campus Harvest Market) and use the story of Lady Bug and her friends to start having conversations with the children in your life about hunger and the ways they can make an impact for their neighbors. Learn more here.

4. Honor a Loved One with a Tribute Ecard

Give $25 or more in honor of a loved one this season and we’ll send a holiday ecard letting them know of the gift. For each $1 given, NTFB can provide access to three nutritious meals during the holiday season and beyond. Send a card here.

5. Register to Volunteer in January

Pack and box food in our Perot Family Campus Warehouse, get involved at a Mobile Distribution and or help stock shelves and distribute food at one of our 500 partner agencies. Visit ntfb.org/get-involved for a full look at the ways you can commit to give the gift of time during the new year.

6. Give Your Foodie Friend a Defined Dish cookbook

Dallas recipe developer and author Alex Snodgrass, who’s behind The Defined Dish, donated some of her New York Times-bestselling cookbooks to the Food Bank. For each book purchased at $15, the NTFB can provide 45 meals. Snag one at the Perot Family Campus Harvest Market.

7. Add a Dollar (or more) to Your Grocery Bill

Through Dec. 26, Whole Foods is collecting money at the register to benefit organizations and NTFB partner agencies that receive groceries through their food rescue program. Albertsons, Market Street and United Super Markets are collecting donations at the register through Dec. 16. Kroger and H-E-B also have opportunities to give back at the register.

8. Leave Santa an NTFB Trucker’s Hat

Gift Mr. Claus a backup hat this Christmas. The green NTFB hat complements his red suit well, and each purchase helps provide 105 meals for neighbors facing hunger.

9. Have Your Gift Matched Through the Face of Hunger Campaign

NTFB’s annual Face of Hunger campaign continues through Dec. 31 and thanks to our friends at Sammons Enterprises and the Beaumont Foundation, every gift made up to $200,000 will be doubled. That means for each dollar you give, you’ll be helping to provide six meals. Give now at this link.

10. Have a Garden Paver Made for a Loved One

Honor a loved one with their name or a favorite phrase or sentiment through NTFB’s garden pavers, which go on display in Jan’s Garden. Small pavers include up to three lines and large pavers up to five lines. With large pavers at $250, each one purchased provides a transforming 750 meals for our neighbors facing hunger. Learn more here.

11. Snap a Photo with Santa at Half Price Books

The flagship Half Price Books on Northwest Highway in Dallas is hosting St. Nick on Dec. 10, Dec. 16-17 and Dec. 20-22. Join him for your annual Christmas photo between 1 and 5 p.m. each day. Any donations made support the food bank. Learn more here.

12. Include NTFB in Your Ornament Collection

Add a wheat stalk ornament to your tree as a reminder that while hunger exists in every zip code, together with our supporters, we are fostering growth and striving toward a hungry-free, healthy North Texas. They’re available in the Harvest Market at NTFB’s Perot Family Campus.
