Join North Texas Food Bank in Opposing SNAP Cuts
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is the nation’s most effective tool in fighting hunger for children, working families and seniors.

Texas food banks continue to see a surge in demand for food assistance, reaching levels not seen since the height of the pandemic. To adequately meet the need, we must protect the nation’s most effective tool in fighting hunger: SNAP.
Right now, lawmakers in Washington are considering sweeping cuts to SNAP that could take food away from seniors, children, and veterans. North Texas Food Bank joins all 20 food banks in the Feeding Texas network in urging our U.S. House and Senate leaders to refrain from cutting SNAP or other critical nutrition programs.

Texans are struggling right now with the high cost of food and other necessities, from housing and utilities to childcare. Working families need SNAP more than ever. Now is not the time to cut this life-saving program.
Families who participate in SNAP to put food on the table would not be the only Texans harmed by the SNAP cuts. Retailers, farmers, workers, and communities across our state would feel the impact of SNAP cuts. If current proposals move forward, hungry families will suffer, food businesses will suffer, and our overall economy will be weaker. Cuts would also put added strain on NTFB and its partner pantries and community organizations, which are already seeing increased demand for assistance.
In the 2024 calendar year, SNAP payments generated an estimated $10.73 billion in economic activity for Texas — a 54% return on investment. The program is also responsible for supporting more than 94,000 jobs and more than 2 billion meals for Texas families in need in 2024. SNAP also puts the purchasing power in the hands of our neighbors and provides them more meals than they can access through NTFB. For every one physical meal NTFB can provide to neighbors, SNAP can provide nine.
You can join us in urging lawmakers to refrain from any form of SNAP cuts by sending a letter directly to your legislators.
Hunger won’t go away with SNAP cuts, instead it will persist and grow. We must act now to protect SNAP’s investment in our families and the Texas economy – our communities are worth it.
