Fulfilling Futures

More than 40 years of learnings have led us to this moment.

Now is the time to leverage the scale of our partner network, our supply chain and our brand to keep feeding the community and invest in holistic supports to tackle the root causes of hunger. Along with support from Boston Consulting Group, we spent nearly a year gathering input from stakeholders, establishing priorities, and evaluating the investment needed to achieve our goals. As a result of that work, NTFB has cast a vision for the next five years that embodies our charge: Fulfilling Futures. Through Fulfilling Futures, we strive to fill 80% of the need in every ZIP code, both through adequate distribution of food and through targeted focus on SNAP. We are doing more than filling pantries. We are fulfilling potential—fueling self-sufficiency, dignity and hope with every meal. To accomplish that, we will harness our scale to more dynamically serve our neighbors and partners, for the long-term.

Our Strategic Priorities

Access To Food

Priority One: Increase Agility & Efficiency in Providing Food Access

Close the meal gap by tailoring our approach and pursuing operational improvements so we can serve with excellence together.

  • Increase the amount of non-government donated food.
  • Increase SNAP enrollment.
  • Use technology to optimize supply chain and warehouse management.
  • While NTFB essentially met the overall meal gap in recent years, our Hunger Index tool shows about half of the 200-plus ZIP codes we serve did not receive as much food as the data shows is needed. To truly close the meal gap, we strive to meet 80% of the need in each ZIP code by ensuring all areas are adequately served through food distribution and SNAP enrollment.
  • Ensure capable partners exist and are equipped to handle any added capacity in their ZIP code.
Partner Network

Priority Two: Evolve the Partner Network

Better serve our neighbors by evolving how we work with our Partner Network.

  • Leverage data to better understand our feeding partners and neighbors.
  • Focus on growing and developing feeding partners that serve ZIP codes with unmet needs.
  • Equip our feeding partners to add holistic services, such as job skills training or health care.
Holistic Support

Priority Three: Expand Holistic Approach to Fight Hunger

Grow the holistic support offerings available to our neighbors to address the underlying barriers to food security through grantmaking for critical wraparound services and expanding our FoodRx program.

  • Grow grants for partners providing holistic services with the goal of adding 20 new wraparound services across our network.
  • Strengthen health care partnerships by establishing FoodRx relationships with 50 medical clinics that are paired with food pharmacies where they can refer their patients.
  • Develop referral networks for financial and health support for neighbors.
Data And Analytics

Priority Four: Build Data & Analytics Capabilities

Develop and leverage a robust data and analytics capability to better serve our neighbors.

  • Aggregate partner and neighbor data to improve decision making.
  • Expand neighbor insights through Feeding America surveys with 100 additional partners.
  • Use grants to incentivize data implementation with feeding partners.
  • Create public reporting on food insecurity trends.
Sustainability

Priority Five: Ensure Financial Sustainability

A child's nourishment shouldn’t be impacted by the financial markets. By building our endowment to strengthen our financial position, we are ensuring that support is always available for families—no matter what circumstances arise.

  • Intensify fundraising efforts to achieve a 5% year-over-year increase in public support.
  • Expand food supplier relationships for sustained donations.
  • Streamline operations to reduce costs.
  • Grow the endowment fund by $5 million.
  • Grow membership in Full Plate Society by 5%. The Full Plate Society is for those who've included NTFB in their estate plans.
Agency Partnerships 2

“Hunger impacts everything—a child’s ability to learn, a parent’s ability to provide, a family’s ability to thrive,” said Ginny Kissling, NTFB board chair and president of Americas and chief operating officer at Ryan. “That’s why this plan matters. Feeding families today opens doors for a stronger tomorrow.”
