Walmart and Sam’s Club Fight Hunger. Spark Change. Campaign Returns to Help People Facing Hunger in North Texas
Taking place in stores and online, the 11th annual campaign supports the North Texas Food Bank and its local hunger relief efforts.
Everyone needs nutritious food to thrive, and in every community in America, people are working hard to provide for themselves and their families. Yet in 2022, 44 million people — 1 in 7 — faced food insecurity in the U.S.
In fact, recent USDA data shows that Texas has the second-highest rate of food-insecurity in the nation and the 13 counties served by the North Texas Food Bank have the fourth-highest number of people facing hunger in the country, with one in eight individuals not knowing where their next meal will come from.
Those are the highest numbers in a decade, underscoring the need for more charitable food assistance in North Texas and beyond.
Now, for the 11th straight year, all U.S. Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs are launching the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign, with the goal of providing people facing hunger with access to the food and resources they need to thrive. Since its inception in 2014, the campaign has generated more than $186 million and helped secure nearly 1.9 billion meals* for the Feeding America® network of local food banks.
Walmart has been a valued partner of the NTFB since 2001, providing volunteer support, retail food donations and funds. In 2023 alone, the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign raised $402,942.08 for the NTFB. As part of this year’s campaign, employees from area Walmart and Sam’s Clubs locations also will volunteer at the Food Bank.
“We are thankful for corporate partners like Walmart and Sam’s Clubs that recognize the growing issue of hunger and look for ways to contribute to organizations addressing this complex problem,” said Trisha Cunningham, President and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank. “The Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign means more food on the table and more hope for a better tomorrow for our neighbors.”
This year’s campaign will run in stores and online from April 1-April 29. Here’s how to get involved:
