North Texans Help Provide 1.3+ Million Meals Through GivingTuesday

The NTFB, and charities nationwide, saw an uptick in support on the international giving day.

Thanks to the generous support of our community, the North Texas Food Bank raised more than $449,000 on GivingTuesday, December 3, which is the equivalent of nearly 1.35 million meals for children, families and older adults facing hunger in our community.

The NTFB was thankful to have a generous matching gift from Atmos Energy that tripled all donations made, up to $100,000. With the matching gift, the NTFB raised $390,000 on Giving Tuesday plus an additional over $59,000 in early gifts.

“The North Texas Food Bank could not do what we do in the fight against hunger without the generous support of our community and partners like Atmos Energy,” said Trisha Cunningham, President and CEO. “Thank you. Because of friends like you, we’re standing strong against hunger and nourishing our neighbors with the healthy meals they need.”

This year, North Texans also had the opportunity to support local charities through the Communities Foundation of Texas homepage. Visitors to that website were responsible for $12,000 of the NTFB’s GivingTuesday donations. The NTFB also received a $15,000 gift made from a major donor that said they were inspired by the Atmos Energy matching opportunity.

Donations made on GivingTuesday this year were up more than $100,000 from 2023, when the NTFB raised nearly $337,000.

That was consistent with giving nationwide. The GivingTuesday data commons estimates that $3.6 billion was donated to nonprofits in the U.S. alone, which was a 16% increase from the previous year. Nationwide, GivingTuesday also saw more participants than ever before, with more than 36 million people donating to at least one charity on December 3.
