Mahj & Mingle Helps Provide Access to Over 180,000 Meals

North Texans played for a purpose on April 28 to support their neighbors facing hunger.

Thanks to the support of our community, North Texas Food Bank’s mahjong event had triple the impact in its second year and enabled more than 180,000 meals for children, older adults and families.

Hosted April 28 at Park City Club in Dallas, this year’s event, Mahj & Mingle, featured an afternoon and an evening session of mahjong play. Guests also enjoyed tasty hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.

NTFB President and CEO Trisha Cunningham and Chief External Affairs Officer Erica Yaeger kicked off the events by sharing with guests about the state of hunger and the impact of their attendance. For every table of four reserved, NTFB can provide 3,000 meals to our neighbors facing hunger.

“We believe everyone should have access to the food they need to thrive,” Trisha said. “That work is only possible because of the generous support of our community and people like you. Thank you.”

Erica also thanked event co-chairs Regen Horchow and Lizzie Routman for their tremendous support, as well as chair and mahjong instructor Bethany Williamson for her work in making Mahj & Mingle a success. And she introduced her successor, Annam Manthiram, who is taking over the Chief External Affairs role as Erica steps away after seven impactful years at NTFB.

Mallory Martin, founder of Mended, also attended and provided table linens for the events. Her social impact company works with survivors of labor trafficking in India to hand block print linens. A portion of all linens sold at the event are supporting NTFB.
