Empty Bowls Helps to Provide Nearly 1 Million Meals

The North Texas Food Bank’s signature event returned Feb. 29 to raise crucial funds to support our neighbors experiencing hunger.

The North Texas Food Bank’s signature Empty Bowls event returned to the Perot Family Campus on February 29.

Presented by Kroger, the 24th annual event brought together some of our most dedicated supporters, sponsors, talented chef and restaurant partners, and gifted local artisans – all in support of our vision of creating a hunger-free, healthy North Texas.

Thanks to the more than 800 guests and numerous generous sponsors, Empty Bowls raised enough money to provide nearly 1 million meals to our neighbors facing hunger. That funding is especially critical right now as many in our community struggle to make ends meet with the higher cost of living caused by record inflation.

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed bowl-friendly fare by area chefs and restaurants. Thanks to Dan Landsberg, executive chef at Circle T Ranch, for serving as this year’s celebrity guest chef, and to each of the other participating chefs and restaurants: Asian Mint, Bread Zeppelin, Celebration Restaurant, Chef Dnoir Cajun Cuisine LLC, Empire Baking Co., Lockhart Smokehouse, Mozzarella Co., Norma’s Café, Parigi, Pelican Lodge, Red Stix and Chef Uno Immanivong, Shake Shack, Taverna Rossa, True Food Kitchen and Union Bear. Drinks were sponsored by Ben E. Keith and GrantThornton.

Attendees also were invited to select a bowl handcrafted by a local artisan to take home with them. The bowls are meant to serve as a reminder of the event and of the fact that not everyone in North Texas knows where the food will come from to fill their bowls each day.

Guests also had the chance to see some of the artisans in action during a demonstration in Jan’s Garden by the Dallas Area Woodturners.

Inside, those in attendance were invited to take tours of NTFB’s new Repackaging Room. The room will allow the Food Bank to purchase and accept donations of bulk dry goods, like rice or beans, and repackage them into smaller quantities for distribution to our neighbors.

This event would not be possible without the generosity and unwavering support of our sponsors and community. Thank you for standing with us as we work to provide food for today and hope for tomorrow for children, seniors and families across North Texas.
