Empty Bowls Helps Provide 861,000 Meals

The signature event presented by Kroger raised $287,000 to support North Texas neighbors facing hunger.

Thanks to the generosity of guests, sponsors, restaurant partners and artisans, North Texas Food Bank’s 26th annual Empty Bowls event raised $287,000, which equates to 861,000 meals for the 1 in 6 North Texans facing hunger.

The event was presented by Kroger and took place February 26 at NTFB’s Perot Family Campus. Since its inception, Empty Bowls has raised enough to provide over 9.8 million meals for children, families and older adults facing hunger in our community.

NTFB is deeply grateful to this year’s sponsors: Kroger, Ewing Buick GMC, MUFG, 4Change Energy, RKD Group, USA Compression, AMN Healthcare, the family of Jan Pruitt, WellMed, AlphaGraphics, Ben E. Keith and RNDC.

During the evening, guests enjoyed bites from nearly 20 restaurants and food trucks, including Asian Mint, Celebration Restaurant & Catering, Empire Baking Co., If Jesus Made Quesadillas , Lockhart Smokehouse Plano, Maru Ramen, McRae’s American Bistro, Mozzarella Company, Porch Swing Iced Tea, Red Stix and Chef Uno Catering, Seager & Sons, Shake Shack, Sophia’s Haitian Cuisine, Suburban Yacht Club, Taverna Rossa, The Texas Barn at Circle T Ranch, Top Brass, True Food Kitchen, Union Bear Brewing Co. and Urban Family Restaurants.

The Texas Jazz Cats, who have played in support of NTFB for several years, donated their time and provided live music throughout the event.

Guests were also invited to select a bowl handcrafted by Dallas Area Woodturners and Trinity Ceramic artisans. The bowls are meant to serve as a reminder of NTFB’s mission to ensure everyone has food with which to fill their bowls.

In Jan’s Garden, attendees had the chance to view artist demonstrations by the Dallas Area Woodturners and Trinity Ceramic and also to hear from Oak Cliff Bee Co. about the beehives at NTFB.

Thank you to all who attended and supported Empty Bowls. NTFB could not do what it does in the fight against hunger without the partnership of our generous community.
