Celebrate National Hummus Day with this Recipe
While traditional hummus is made with chickpeas, this version from NTFB’s Nutrition Services team relies on white beans. You’ll get that same traditional hummus taste plus 7 grams of protein with each serving.

Ingredients
2 15.5-ounce cans of cannelloni or Great Northern beans, rinsed and drained
3 cloves garlic, minced
¼ cup lime juice
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
1 tbsp fresh chives, chopped
1 tsp salt
¾ tsp freshly ground black pepper
Directions
- In a blender or food processor, puree beans with garlic, lime juice and oil. Move to a medium bowl once blended.
- Stir in herbs.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Serve at room temperature with veggies, crackers, pita chips or other snack.
