Thursday's Food Drive a Hit
Thursday’s food drive prior to the pre-season game between the Stars and Avalanche was a big hit. Hundreds of fans contributed non-perishable food items to the effort, all to help victims of Hurricane Ike.
“Many people’s homes and lives were impacted by Hurricane Ike and this food drive was just one way we could help,” said Stars Asst. VP of Communications Rob Scichili. “The Dallas Stars Foundation, the North Texas Food Bank, American Airlines Center and WBAP Radio were all more than willing to help this cause, one that helps fellow Texans get through a rough time. We’d like to thank all of the fans and the entire community for contributing so generously to the effort.”
All told, a total of 3,151 pounds of food was donated and $189 in cash donations collected in the drive. The North Texas Food Bank ran the operation and collected the food, with support from the Dallas Stars, American Airlines Center and News/Talk 820 WBAP.
All fans who donated canned food items received a voucher for two free tickets to any 2008 home Dallas Stars pre-season game.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Dallas Stars in their efforts to collect canned food for the North Texas Food Bank,” said Jan Pruitt, North Texas Food Bank president and CEO. “Their idea of offering ticket vouchers was a great incentive for fans. The Stars are a valued partner and we thank the organization and the fans for their continued support. They are truly STARS in our eyes. “
